2015-09-09, Fall has arrived early

The semi (cicadas) have gone, their high pitched, extremely loud whining replaced by the pleasant chirping of crickets in the evenings.  The rice is being harvested and the beautiful green and gold fields that swayed gently in the wind are being reduced to patches of dried stalks.  The temperature has dropped significantly, although there are still 2 or 3 hours each afternoon that are uncomfortably hot.  I just started wearing a jacket on my ride home at night, and I've brought out my slightly heavier blanket.  I actually have a long sleeve shirt and a flannel shirt on right now... But since it's 73F  all you central Californians would still think it's warm.  The reports say there will be an early fall - in fact we are already into fall weather since normally it stays very hot through Sept. and even into Oct. (so they say - I don't remember that being the case).  It's nice in that I will be able to get out on my bike again after the rain stops, but they also say we will have an early and more severe winter - not good in my book.  I'll have to get some snow boots, more long underwear and maybe a longer coat.  I am NOT looking forward to the winter.

We are having a typhoon at the moment.  It's been raining since yesterday (actually on and off since Sunday), but both the rain and the wind picked up during the night.  Nothing major here yet, but looking out at the drainage 'creek' next to my apt. I am glad that I'm on the 2nd floor...

Classes may or may not be cancelled but we will have to go into work either way.  We'll do prep work if there are no classes.  I might end up walking instead of taking my bike.  I'll see what the wind is like later.  For now I'll just spend the morning watching Korean dramas.  I wish I had some ingredeints to make soup...
