Well it doesn't seem like this year is going to bring the usually magnificent colors of fall from the Japanese maples. Some are turning, some haven't turned yet, others are just turning brown and falling. But it's still fun, and pretty to go around and see the leaves as I did this weekend.
I was invited to go leaf peeping with one of my Japanese teachers. Her husband drove and a college student who helps with the Japanese classes also came along.
| No nails were used in old Japanese buildings. This joint looks like a very complicated puzzle. |
This is a small shrine and park we stopped at.
| Our little group. |
We stopped at a highway rest area to have lunch - so many choices!! Noodles, curry rice, hamburgers, octopus balls, a bakery, etc. etc. We all decided to have this Hikone specialty - champon - which is like ramen with a light broth and lots of vegetables. A great way to warm up on a cool fall day!
The rest area was lined with all kinds of food shops and a souvenir area in the middle. I wouldn't have minded spending more time there!
On my way to the grocery store after Japanese class.
