I forgot I had these pictures on my camera. What with the election coming up and losing all faith in the American people etc.... I had other things on my mind. I'm now trying to put all that OUT of my mind since thinking/ worrying about it isn't going to change anything.
I can always stay here - good luck to all of you.
Rampant hatred from half the people in America and election catastrophes aside I have had a fun few weekends. After our school Halloween party it was nice to spend the day with Shioli. We didn't end up going to the places we intended, seems there was more than one place with the same name, but we had fun and some delicious food just the same.
Friday night after work Shioli took me to Taga Shrine to see the illumination. The things on the ground are lights that look like clear rocks. The color changes - blue, white, green, orange...
We had a delicious (as usual) dinner at her place and we stopped at Hikone Castle on the way home. They are having an illumination as well.

On Saturday we went a little further afield. We stopped a a really good bakery and picked up lunch. Then we found this temple complex.
We were actually trying to find parking for the castle you can see on the hill. But the lots were filled for some reason so we decided not to go.
This temple was one where the special 7 - 5 - 3 occasion is celebrated. It's for girls who are 3 and 7 and boys who are 5. They dress in kimonos, have special photos taken and go to temples for blessings.
Then we ended up at this kind of weird and a little creepy place behind some houses. We were looking for a different temple (but one with the same name evidently).
On the way home we stopped at a convenience store for a banana chocolate parfait we'd heard about but ended up with this delicious sweet potato soft cream. It had a caramel sort of flavor with puree of roasted sweet potato on top and some chopped toffee like candy. I think the cone had some purple sweet potato in it as well. VERY delicious! Unfortunately we don't have that particular convenience store in Shiga prefecture.
Then, before we arrived home we decided to stop for tonkatsu. Shioli is CRAZY about bananas and it just so happened they were advertising pork from pigs that eat bananas! It was very good but tasted like any other pork...
Yummy!

Chawan mushi on the right - steamed egg custard (savory) and pickles on the left.
Tonkatsu with cabbage, miso, rice and pickles.
Choice of coffee or yuzu (my favorite) sherbert.
Yummy!
