2016-08-01, Hikone Fireworks

I've been looking forward to the fireworks for a while now.  The unfortunate thing was that they were on a Monday night.  The funny thing was there were so many more people there than last year when it was on the weekend!  It cooled down a little in the evening, it's been in the mid-90s during the day, so it was quite pleasant (until I had to ride home).

I met Cindy, Shin and Akina, we had some snacks and were treated to an hour long fireworks show next to the lake.  Clouds threatened for a little while but they dispersed and it was a beautiful night.

This was taken before it got too crowded.  This is how it was for the show last year.
But this year there were no empty spaces.

Lots of food, lots of people.

Akina and Cindy

This was interesting - and yummy.  Potatoes (on the right) and squash on the left,
mixed with rice flour to make these chewy 'dumpling' type things.

Mochi potatoes and fried chicken for me, fish on a stick, beef on a stick and squash dumplings for Cindy and Shin and takoyaki (octopus dumplings), beef and sandwiches for Akina.

I had started to loose my voice mid-morning and it got worse as the day went on so it was difficult to talk but you don't really need to talk while watching fire fall from the sky!

This morning my voice is completely gone and I had a fever, sore throat, etc. during the night so I didn't go to work today.  I will also miss a dinner at Emily's house tonight unfortunately.  Emily, Erin and I have started taking turns cooking once a month for each other.  Too bad.

I'm supposed to go to see some amazing sunflowers tomorrow with Shioli after work and then to another fireworks show on Thursday with Akina.  I hope I can.  But if not, the memories of this one are good enough to last until next summer...
