It's cooling off a little - little by little (in the high 80s and 90s as opposed to 100s) and I took the opportunity to get on my bike and take a little ride one afternoon. I thought I'd share some everyday sights with you.

| I love riding along the Seri River. I think it's my favorite place in Hikone. |
This is a shrine dedicated to fallen soldiers. They were getting ready for a ceremony/festival, hence the lanterns - and great shadows. |
| Another favorite road of mine. |
| This is a river near the hospital. |
| Loads of cranes and egrets! |
On another day the clouds looked so beautiful
I just had to get out of the house after sitting my airconditioned living room most of the day. I decided to take a book and go over to the lake because there's always a breeze there. I started out at this park but it wasn't too comfortable sitting on this bench, or the grass without back support for a long time. So...

,,, I got on my bike, started riding and saw this guy playing his guitar. I took a seat nearby but between the waves which were very strong that day, the cars and trucks behind me and the wind in my ears I only caught snippets. So... back on my bike... |
...and I found this nice little path through a pine 'forest' a little farther south along the lake, and slightly removed from the noisy road. See how the trees are bent? Interestingly this way and that, looking for the sun instead of being bent by the wind it seems.

I decided to stop and read at this gazebo for a while. By the way, I was reading a really good book by Mitch Albom called The Time Keeper. |
| The Serigawa emptying into Lake Biwa. |
| The sky here isn't often this blue but on this day the sky and clouds reminded me of the view on Central Ave. or Pine Ave. in PG looking towards the mountains beyond Monterey. |
| This was the first time I've seen fog! It was on the other side of the lake, my side was nice and sunny. |
Then I joined some coworkers for yakiniku (cooking meat at your table - so good!!!) for a birthday dinner for Emily (in the middle).
